Every piece is made to order in Johannesburg. Shipments depart for New York on a regular schedule, and once landed, U.S. delivery typically takes about a week.

Standard delivery is curbside, with white-glove service available on request.

Because each piece is made to order, returns aren’t accepted unless an item arrives damaged or faulty — if so, contact us within 7 days and we’ll resolve it quickly.

The Mystery Desk is a solid wood desk crafted from ash, designed with an elevated lightness in both look and feel. Its top appears to float, supported by four uniquely placed legs that give the piece its name- and its quiet intrigue.

Equally suited to a studio or workspace, the Mystery functions beautifully as a writing desk or home office desk, offering presence without distraction. As a designer desk, it brings subtle asymmetry and clean detailing into sharper focus.

This is a modern wooden desk for those who appreciate form as much as function- a refined, contemporary desk that balances elegance with intention.

merino wool, known for its softness,
durability and warmth underfoot.

Designed to feel like pages torn from a
sketchbook, these tactile pieces bring
abstract forms, bold lines and playful
textures into everyday spaces. Made to
order and customisable in size, every rug
is a one-of-a-kind expression—crafted with
care, and built to last.

Who We Are


Founded in 2007 by industrial designer Adriaan Hugo and graphic designer Katy Taplin, Dokter and Misses is a Johannesburg-based multi-disciplinary design studio. Born from a shared vision of functional artistry, we make furniture, lighting, and objects that challenge conventions and reinterpret everyday forms.

Each piece is a testament to our belief that design should be both beautiful and practical—objects that live with you and make a statement.

When will my order be ready?

Most of our pieces are made to order. Standard production takes about 6 weeks, followed by 4 weeks shipping from South Africa and 3–5 business days final delivery within the U.S.Sometimes we have products or components in stock that can shorten this timeline. If you’re working toward a deadline, let us know and we’ll see what’s possible.

Can I change or cancel my order?

If you need to adjust your order, please reach out as soon as possible. Once production has started, changes or cancellations may not be possible.

What if my order arrives damaged?

Please inspect your piece when it arrives. If it’s damaged or incorrect, let us know within 7 days at sales@dokterandmisses.com, with:

  • A photo of the issue
  • A photo of the packaging
    This helps us resolve the matter quickly.

Do you accept returns?

Because each item is made to order, we don’t accept returns or exchanges unless your order is damaged or incorrect.

How is delivery handled?

Standard delivery is roadside. If you’d like white-glove service (inside placement, unpacking, or installation), let us know at checkout or by email.If your address has limited access (stairs, narrow roads, gates, etc.), please tell us in advance so we can plan accordingly.
