Every piece is made to order in Johannesburg. Shipments depart for New York on a regular schedule, and once landed, U.S. delivery typically takes about a week.

Standard delivery is curbside, with white-glove service available on request.

The Strelitzia is a statement floor lamp that brings the bold geometry of nature indoors. This tall floor lamp rises like its namesake- the bird-of-paradise plant- topped with angular steel elements that echo the form of the Strelitzia’s vivid orange bloom. The result is a striking lighting sculpture that glows with soft, ambient warmth.

The piece doubles as a sculptural floor light and a decorative floor light, transforming any space it inhabits. Its structural stem and luminous plume make it an ideal standing light for living rooms, entryways, or expressive corners that invite a touch of the unexpected.

As a designer floor lamp, the Strelitzia balances botanical inspiration with industrial execution, showcasing refined materials and playful composition. It functions as a lighting fixture, yes, but more so as a sculptural presence.

Part of the Tropicana 2024 collection, the Strelitzia reflects our ongoing exploration of lighting design- where flora meets function, and illumination becomes art.

Founded in 2007 by industrial designer Adriaan Hugo and graphic designer Katy Taplin, Dokter and Misses is a Johannesburg-based multi-disciplinary design studio. Born from a shared vision of functional artistry, we make furniture, lighting, and objects that challenge conventions and reinterpret everyday forms.

When will my order be ready?

Most of our pieces are made to order. Standard production takes about 6 weeks, followed by 4 weeks shipping from South Africa and 3–5 business days final delivery within the U.S.Sometimes we have products or components in stock that can shorten this timeline. If you’re working toward a deadline, let us know and we’ll see what’s possible.

Can I change or cancel my order?

If you need to adjust your order, please reach out as soon as possible. Once production has started, changes or cancellations may not be possible.

What if my order arrives damaged?

Please inspect your piece when it arrives. If it’s damaged or incorrect, let us know within 7 days at sales@dokterandmisses.com, with:

  • A photo of the issue
  • A photo of the packaging
    This helps us resolve the matter quickly.

Do you accept returns?

Because each item is made to order, we don’t accept returns or exchanges unless your order is damaged or incorrect.

How is delivery handled?

Standard delivery is roadside. If you’d like white-glove service (inside placement, unpacking, or installation), let us know at checkout or by email.If your address has limited access (stairs, narrow roads, gates, etc.), please tell us in advance so we can plan accordingly.
