Every piece is made to order in Johannesburg. Shipments depart for New York on a regular schedule, and once landed, U.S. delivery typically takes about a week.

Standard delivery is curbside, with white-glove service available on request.

Because each piece is made to order, returns aren’t accepted unless an item arrives damaged or faulty — if so, contact us within 7 days and we’ll resolve it quickly.

The Blue Chair is a refined re-issue of the very first Dokter and Misses chair, originally designed in 2007. Previously manufactured in steel, this updated version is crafted as a wooden chair, offering a warmer materiality while retaining the strong, linear silhouette that defined the original design.

Now lighter and more comfortable, the solid wood chair balances sculptural presence with everyday function. It’s ideal as a dining chair, whether styled individually or as part of a dining table and chairs set, and works equally well as a standalone statement chair in a living room or office.

Designed for versatility, the Blue Chair brings a bold yet minimal aesthetic to any space. Use it as a dining room chair to elevate your table setting or place it as an occasional chair where thoughtful design and clean lines are appreciated.

Who We Are


Founded in 2007 by industrial designer Adriaan Hugo and graphic designer Katy Taplin, Dokter and Misses is a Johannesburg-based multi-disciplinary design studio. Born from a shared vision of functional artistry, we make furniture, lighting, and objects that challenge conventions and reinterpret everyday forms.

Each piece is a testament to our belief that design should be both beautiful and practical—objects that live with you and make a statement.

When will my order be ready?

Most of our pieces are made to order. Standard production takes about 6 weeks, followed by 4 weeks shipping from South Africa and 3–5 business days final delivery within the U.S.Sometimes we have products or components in stock that can shorten this timeline. If you’re working toward a deadline, let us know and we’ll see what’s possible.

Can I change or cancel my order?

If you need to adjust your order, please reach out as soon as possible. Once production has started, changes or cancellations may not be possible.

What if my order arrives damaged?

Please inspect your piece when it arrives. If it’s damaged or incorrect, let us know within 7 days at sales@dokterandmisses.com, with:

  • A photo of the issue
  • A photo of the packaging
    This helps us resolve the matter quickly.

Do you accept returns?

Because each item is made to order, we don’t accept returns or exchanges unless your order is damaged or incorrect.

How is delivery handled?

Standard delivery is roadside. If you’d like white-glove service (inside placement, unpacking, or installation), let us know at checkout or by email.If your address has limited access (stairs, narrow roads, gates, etc.), please tell us in advance so we can plan accordingly.
